Sesame Street, the most widely-viewed children's television show in the world, is celebrating its 40th anniversary today. New York City proclaimed that November 10 be the official Sesame Street Day. They have temporarily hoisted a street sign at 64th Street and Broadway, across the Sesame Workshop's corporate headquarters.
Now, you can absolutely go to a real Sesame Street. Just take a train to Lincoln Center, and stroll down to 64th Street and you'll see the familiar street sign at the section of Columbus Ave at 64th Street.
If you want to celebrate this momentous event with your favorite Sesame Street characters, catch their 40th anniversary show featuring First Lady Michelle Obama. You can also go to the Brooklyn Public Library, which will be hosting an exhibit of Sesame Street memorabilia.
Here's a video of the media's analysis of the show's evolution throughout the years.
